A stove top cappuccino maker.
I was checking out Kape Isla with a couple of friends when one of them pointed out to a contraption displayed near the bar.
It was the Bialetti Mukka Express, which according to Bialetti was:
“The ingenious novelty that allows you to prepare two creamy mugs of perfect cappuccino just like the one at the Italian Espresso bar”.
It costs around 3,000 php and up. I have never used one before or a stovetop esspresso maker for that matter so I did a little research and found a review about it here.
I will not pass judgement on something I have not tried yet, so for now, let the comment of the others be your guide.

well my friend has not of that…but i like the brikka better…the crema is more authentic which I have…while making cappuccino or espresso-like beverage on Mukka Express don’t produce the taste I like…it’s over extracted I should say…

Thanks for that info Lyndon
. Guessing from the comments, I think Bialetti pushed it too far in saying it makes “perfect cappuccinos.” Hehe.
Brikka is indeed better with the pressure control valve. Is the crema thick though? What coffee do you use?
Hope to read from you again!
lyndon, where did you get the brikka? im looking for somethign to buy for myself.
erik yes i was in your class last weekend. learned a lot, thanks for all the info.
Hi John
I’m not sure if it’s a Brikka but you can try going to Cook’s Exchange in SM Megamall, it’s in building A, near Gonuts Donuts. I saw one there before, they had 2 sizes, just not sure if it was a Brikka.
Equilibrum in Tunasan, Muntinlupa is one of the dealers, but you can go to Boyd’s Coffee in Mandaluyong, near Globe, I think it’s in Sheridan Street.
regards,
Lyndon
Benquet coffee, Sultan Kudarat, Mt. Matunton…etc…..preferably freshly roasted…
normally if you pour the “espresso” from the Brikka into another cup the crema is easily broken…it is not as thick and as dense as the shots from espresso machines because the bigger pressure of real espresso machines…
Nice to know a few Pinoys are blogging about coffee nowadays…
thanks for the info guys. I ended up finding a Bialetti distributor in mandaluyong. and i bought a bialetti mukka pot for about 700 pesos. i wouldnt recommend going there if you dont have a car, its some lady’s house in the middle of some gated area instead of a store. i like my mukka pot but i bought some shtty beans from starbucks so my coffee tastes old. i haven’t seen it make any espresso crema yet. but maybe its the beans.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you
.
Instead of buying from $tarbucks, try finding a Bo’s coffee near your place. Last time a checked, a 250gram bag of roasted beans costs around 250php. They indicate on the outside of the bag when it was roasted so you’d know if it’s fresh or not. Last I bought was bag of Kenya AA. Yummy!
aeropress. bought mine from

Great info Benson! Thanks a lot for this, might be a good addition to our barista set up. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this.
How much did you get yours? Warranty?
Around 1,000 pesos.
anyone know where i can get one of these? I saw a video of it and it looks like a good way to make milk foam. The aero latte. i tried hand whisking and i sucked at it, the milk didn’t foam. i want to pick up something like this at a store.

Hi John! Nice to hear from you again! Don’t know where to purchase that here, although I did saw a similar contraption (there’s that word again) being sold in SM supermarkets, the one being demo’d by sales reps. But be warned, some have claimed that it’s prone to breakage, add to that the batteries required.
One other way of foaming your milk is by the use of a French Press. Just fill the french press with hot milk and then press up and down repeatedly. The foam looks stiff at the beginning but if you give it a couple of swirls-the milk should mix with the foam. Pour it over the espresso from your moka pot and you get your cappucino. I didn’t get to show this in the barista class as my wife broke mine.
Or try the one below, it and your moka pot might look good together. Just don’t know where to buy it also (I’m so useless)

Thanks for the Info Lyndon
Aside fro Boyd’s Coffee, know of any coffee “contraption” (can’t think of any other word) dealers near mandaluyong/makati area?
